  • That's not quite how a points ignition works. The point opening breaks the ground. The condenser is there to keep the points from arcing. The sudden collapse in the magnetic field of the coil primary induces the much higher voltage in the coil secondary. Big carburetor fittings like that usually go to the pcv system.

  • 300$ for skid steer? You cant get the fucking bucket for that price around here. With blown engine and all hydraulics wear to point where it leaks more out that you can pour in same time and its 2-3K at least. This thing only needs little work on engine and rebuild the control valves, touch of paint and its worth 5-6K easy... Your 5-6k reliable machine is over 10K around here if you are lucky. Some people....or guess its American continents wastefulness problem or something..

  • Had a Bobcat 642b. Simple machine, ran great when it wanted to. Replaced the ignition with an electronic kit from Pertronix. Valves needed to be adjusted on a regular basis or it would run out of power. Also if it wouldn’t start on a cool day without a lot of effort, the carb needed rebuilt. Just that old of a machine it was getting hard to find parts for it.

  • Reminds me of the 1965 International 5Ton dump truck I was given to use in the Army. The distributor was worn so bad that it would backfire and blow the radiator hose off, leaving you stranded on the side of the road. One hill on Rt. 40 had a xxx book store and that's where I would be stuck. So the mechaniics just said I had to stop at the book store to tease me. I think I remember him saying the distributor back lash was 52 degrees.... thats a lot...

    Kerry BihlearKerry Bihlear2 oy oldin
  • People say it's not volts that kill you it's amps but that is not how electric works. Think of it like a water pipe with voltage as pressure pressure, amps is the amount of water flowing through the pipe and resistance is the resistance of the pipe i.e. size of pipe and anything blocking the pipe like a filter or something. You can have very high voltage and feel nothing like with static electricity because there are very low amps but if you had 100mA at 1GV then that would probably kill you.

    TeunTeun2 oy oldin
  • @4:00 you say that the play in the rotor arm is delaying the timing. This is not true. The timing is controlled by the angle of the cam with respect to the crank and is not affected by the fitment of the rotor. The rotor simply transfers the spark to the cap and there is an enormous angular range over which it wil do this perfectly. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about but are quite happy to give your viewers wrong information while setting yourself up as an information source for how ignition systems work. But Hey it doesn't matter because you are making fun of your friend's machine and it only cost 300$ and it's a pile of junk. Your lack of regard for your friend is surpassed only by your lack of regard for your viewers and also yourself by portraying yourself in this way throughout this video. I hope your friend found someone who could help him fix his machine.
