  • My little sister has pulmonary stenosis and I have mitral valve prolapse. They did the same procedure on her when we were little to save her life. This episode hits close to home for me. Back in the 90s it was a fairly new procedure but my dad refused to let them do open heart surgery. He made them do the balloon procedure. Glad it’s a successful alternative to open heart now.

  • The one thing that drives me crazy is the cost of vet care. They don’t talk about money on this show but vet care is super expensive. The problem is people want to give animals a good home but because vet care is so expensive some animals can’t get health care they might need. I don’t know how it is in Australia but in America it is crazy expensive. I wish they would make a law on it so keep the cost down.

  • Even if you can't get an IV, couldn't you give him subcutaneous fluids? I know that being dehydrated can reduce the ease of finding a vein, so wouldn't fluids make finding the vein easier? Not a medical professional, just have professionally tiny veins so I know all the tricks of making them easier for people to find 😅

  • This truly is amazing. We as humans made technology and procedures that can prevent death in a way that no other can. And we decide that we shouldn't just use it on our own species, but on others. We decided to use this to save the lives of creatures that don't even fully understand the situation they're in. They're dying and we decide, "No, we can change that." And we do. We save the lives of creatures that reasonably, we shouldn't waste our time on. It's just beautiful. And Benji's owner saying he'll use the little money he has to save him friend who deserves a second chance. For ever horrid thing we do, we show we can do just as many amazing things with the power we've been given.

  • My Max has a gigantic heart murmur on his Aorta valve, he's had it since he was 3 years old now has 12. Surgery wasn't an option due to other conditions and turned out to be allergic to his heart medicine. I don't know how but he's always led a normal life. Has some mucus due to the murmur and has some of those attacks like Benjis owner said but they never affected his life.

    Jaimie HexJaimie Hex2 oy oldin
  • My English Bulldog had a murmur as a puppy, and when they checked it after he turned 6 months, they found it was severe pulmonary stenosis with a coronary anomaly...they said he needed a $20,000 heart surgery, because the $7,000 balloon surgery would not help...within a few months, caring for him holistically, feeding a raw diet, he went from the severe category to moderate....he'll be 4 in January, no medications, no surgeries...

  • We started with one stray, we ended up with fifteen. Smokey got pregnant, then two neighbors moved out leaving their pregnant cats behind and I found a stray kitten in the parking lot. We couldn’t keep them all of course, but we kept them all together, weaned and litter boxed train them all and then took them to a local no kill shelter. Of the three...Dad kept Smokey and I kept her two boys Sass and BC. Someone BC about six months later and Sass passed three years ago...he was 18. We lost his adopted sister Dora, a shelter cat, six months later from heart disease. I hadn’t planned on adopting again, two months later I came home with two kittens from the shelter...Pino and Sophie. They are terrors and just celebrated their second birthdays. They weren’t litter mates, but they are family.

    Mandy McManusMandy McManus5 oy oldin
  • Why was she even trying to hit a vein for IV fluids in something that small? Why not sub-cutaneous fluids?

    Keet RandlingKeet Randling5 oy oldin
  • There’s NO need at all to repeatedly stick a kitten with small veins just to administer some fluids. Subcutaneous administration works very well and there’s no repeated painful needle sticks. Poor kitten, having to suffer through that nonsensical decision. You’d think that with it being so difficult just to get a blood draw from a large neck vein, the vet or vet tech would’ve made a better decision re: fluid administration through a tiny leg vein... Sorry, but true. VERY disappointing.

    TarantuLadyTarantuLady5 oy oldin

  • Im confused why they are putting IV fluids through their veins, cant they just give them subcutaneous fluids? That way you just stick the needle under the skin easily rather than in their already tiny dehydrated veins.

    • @jyotsna amin I got the feeling that it wasn't an easy decision for Tim to intervene. He seemed very cautious and concerned. So, I totally understand. But it was a heartbreaking moment to see mother Tazzi looking back "accusingly" before entering her empty box. ( yeah, I know...too much imagination ...)

      Oma XeratiOma Xerati3 oy oldin
    • @Oma Xerati well no disagreement to that..but I guess sometimes for the good things has to go through a cruel course...N since we humans cannot provide the best ways like nature, our attempts to help may compromise some imp factors...

  • I just had to explain, today, to a lady who wanted to keep a 3 week old kitten, why it is not a good idea. Unless you're trained or experienced, you can very easily do the wrong thing and the kittens can and will die. They have a 75% chance of death in the wild and it doesn't get much better with an unexperienced owner. If you don't know what you're doing or know someone who has experience, call the nearest shelter or rescue that handles young kittens.
