This video is part of a series about climate change supported by Breakthrough Energy - a coalition founded by Bill Gates, that is working to expand clean-energy investment and support the innovations that will lead the world to net-zero carbon emissions.

Climate Change is just too much. There is never any good news. Only graphs that get more and more red and angry. Almost every year breaks some horrible record, from the harshest heat waves to the most rapid Glacier melt. It’s endless and relentless.
We have known for decades that rapid Climate Change is being caused by the release of Greenhouse Gases. But instead of reducing them, in 2019 the world was emitting 50% more CO2 than in the year 2000. And emissions are still rising. Why is that? Why is it so hard to just stop emitting these gases?

For these negative desires, we will be competing for survival. To live comfortably, when the most comfort is laying on a hammock in the wilderness on the beach, at ur finger tips..... We are fully challenged, as we speak, these same implication has left the reptiles, the dino days to stay fittest.

I'm don't even see a realistic reason to plan my life until the age of 50, we will die before that from climate change anyways. I've accepted this fact and this isn't pessimisstic, just straight up realistic.

    Moe MoeMoe Moe16 soat oldin
    • @Anoki Youssou the current numbers are all true, however that doesn't mean that our planet will become warmer in let's say a hundred or a thousand years, because we are right now in a warmer trend or pattern, just like if you were placed on a empty island in the spring season, as a baby, you would feel every day becoming warmer and hotter, and you would become convinced that you need to save yourself from the inevitable day when the world would become too hot to live in, however you won't realize until after the summer heat peaks that it's only a pattern, now just like there is a cold and hot pattern over the year, there is also patterns over hundreds and thousands of years, cold and hot, just like the 70's were cooler than average, this a trend, but unless you see the full cycle you can get tricked into thinking that it's only getting hot, like the baby on the island!

      Moe MoeMoe Moe4 soat oldin
    • @Moe Moe You think that those are small, but when the it's getting warmer, there will be more water vapor which is also a greenhouse gas, causing the global warming to boost. Then the methane gas will be released from the permafrost/the permanent ice layers in soil, causing the global warming to boost. Then the ice will melt and the albedo surface will decrease, and cause more water vapor to be released to the atmosphere, causing the global warming to boost.basically this disaster cause another disaster and so on...

      Anoki YoussouAnoki Youssou4 soat oldin
    • @Moe Moe There is a scientific research.Look the graph,it's increase beyond the max temeprature from the last 800.000 years ago,yet you will deny the graph and the data. And saying thsoe are nromal, nope, the temeprature was rise and down belwo the max temperature, and today, the temperature broke the max temperature.

  • Two things about climate change if it is real that you should note, and maybe research what I say instead of dismissing it? I'm not a scientist, so I know what I am talking about. You will all be reborn, so you are going to live lives in the future in other parts of the world, so it does affect "YOU" and the second thing is this, as I just stated, there is no such thing as death. If this planet dies, we don't. But our ability to experience life here will end, and we may want to protect that. I am a psychic medium, and we all know what life really is.

  • Funny thing is nobody ever discusses the inefficiency of capitalism itself. It is as if humanity were incapable of conceiving another mode of production. Climate change, ecological collapse and other catastrophes can't be avoided within the capitalist framework, in which all incentives that would be needed do not exist.

    ObermannObermann19 soat oldin
    • @Obermann Ecological collapse and environmental catastrophe was/is arguable as bad if not worse in socialist countries. Certainly during the Cold War and there is no green socialist country around today. Because of that I find the claim that socialism would somehow save humanity from climate change unrealistic and not based in reality. So while it is not impossible that humanity somehow develops a new kind socialism that somehow works and is better and then somehow convert the whole world into this new system (ideally without war or repression), this idea seems even less realistic, than trying to prevent rapid climate change within the current system through harsh taxation and regulation.

    • @Anoki Youssou Socialism nowadays means: a sustainable mode of production based on democratic and scientific economic planning according to human social needs.

      ObermannObermann8 soat oldin
    • @Anoki Youssou Mainly because socialism must be a global system. You can't survive isolated within a world controlled by capitalism. Even so, with a planned economy Russia went from the middle ages to the space race in a few years. China's economic success is mainly due to the high degree of it's economic planning. China will be the next n.1 world power.

The old and not "efficient" refrigerators lasted between 20 and 40 years (with small repair and mantenience). This is a problem with many products. How many "efficient and ecological" refrigerator, Car, TV o PC should i buy in my life? what is the cost in CO2 of producing each one? Scheduled Obsolescensy is a problem.

    Darth PDarth PKun oldin
  • Politics know it for so long and did`t came into an action (little actions maybe but not efficient). Still, there are some countries ignoring the problem, they even didn`t manage to achieve the climate targets for 2020. If things are about money, they are fast, but if it`s something happening since decades they do nothing. It`s not important, well it seems so since people vote for their representatives. And, well I don`t know but it seems that it`s impossible to stop climate change. The consequnces will hit the poor first. But not in a theatralic Marvel-movie-way. Suffering will define existence but the upper classes won`t care. "Classes", Plural? No, there are two classes. The rich and the poor. You know where you are counted to. And in history books will be a part about "Climate change", where they tell the lies you would expect from the victors about that it was driven by the greed and consumption-hunger of the middle class and humanity won`t learn about it and therefore it will repeat. The world has to change, we need to change our consumption, we need to stop the growth of the economics by reducing our consumption. Yes the economy will suffer, but why? Because its principle that it needs to grow.. A system that kills itself before it kills humankind. Maybe I´m pessimistic about that but climat change seems unscalable. Greta Thunberg is right when she says that we take her future. And maybe everyone laughing at her is some kind of a driver of our damnation.

They can generate energy by applying a charge, physical stress, or heat. And they never “run out” of energy charge because they never had a charge to begin with, The end of a crystal’s life is when it is broken or destroyed, otherwise it can generate electrical power forever. As a wiccan, I learn a lot of the magnificent power of crystals. They are not just used for magic or medicinal purposes. Sometimes we gotta look past what mundane society tells us, and see what nature has generously provided us with to improve our living whilst protecting our dear planet.

"Our body is used to deal with low amounts of radiation due to having evolved in an environment with natural background radiation." Nonsense;; oh my... It is impossible to discuss which substances are more toxic because the radioactive concentration of contaminated water that Japan will emit is unknown. And there's no need to discuss it. If you insist that a substance is more toxic, of course it is radioactive. The main radioactive problems of contaminated water include cesium-137 and tritium dissolved in water. So, According to the 412th Fukushima Radioactive Water Pollution Water Report, cesium-137 of contaminated water through ALPS equipment twice is 400 becquerels per liter. Therefore, roughly all cesium-137s in contaminated water are considered to be about [4.2E+11] becquerels of radioactivity. Tritium also has a maximum of 44000 becquerels per liter, and tritium is not even filtered by ALPS equipment. Based on the evaluation based on the ORIZEN-2 code and the data directly measured in March 2014, the total amount of tritium activity in the contaminated water is [8.3E+14] becquerels. The level of radioactive concentration in a total of 62 radionuclides, including Cesium-137, is currently presented as a percentage of the safety-regulated concentration set by the Japanese government, with pollution levels more than 100 times higher than the regulatory standard totaling 65,000 tons, which is 6 percent of the total, and pollution levels 10 to 100 times higher than 10 times, 15 percent, or about 162,000 tons, and 5 to 32 times higher, respectively. Therefore, with the exception of tritium, the number of pollutants meeting the Japanese government's safety regulations for release of radioactive water is around 300,000 tons, or 28 percent of the total. The remaining 72 percent, or about 780,000 tons, is currently not meeting Japan's safety standards due to high levels of radioactivity. Given that Japan's radiation safety standards are significantly higher than those of its neighbors, this is a clear, irrefutable terror.

    • @고구마구운 _"Most garbage can be collected"_ Yeah, when toxic materials are purposefully dumped into the ocean, then it has no effect on it, and countries will just send some boats to fish it out... Once the USA dumped barrels with radioactive waste into the ocean in front of Florida. A while later the barrels came back to the surface, floating around there, so the US military sent fighter jets to shoot at the barrels until they'd sink again. _"People who eat seafood will get cancer"_ Nonsense. The micro plastic and other chemicals are far worse. Our body is used to deal with low amounts of radiation due to having evolved in an environment with natural background radiation. I agree that what Japan is doing is shitty, but most countries treat the ocean like a dump and fck our bodies up.

    • @Hm Grraarrpffrzz I know that other countries don't have to stop this just because they do similar things. The discharge of 1230000 tons of radioactive water into the sea is a different matter than dumping waste in the sea. Most garbage can be collected. But the radioactive water can't be recovered. It's a big mistake to think of pollution only in the sea. People who eat seafood will get cancer, have more malformations, and slowly the land will be polluted.

    • Well, lots of countries do such stuff. The USA has the habit of loading old ships with waste, dragging them out to the ocean, and using them as practice for their military.

  • This is so childish, Bill Gates has disgraced himself with this garbage. The video statement: "we have known for some time that CO2 causes rapid climate change" is a complete misrepresentation. the truth is that climate scientists have known for even longer that climate change is driven by a very complicated mix of hundreds of factors and the greatest factor according to the IPCC is the Milankovitch Cycles. As for CO2 levels....well they are lower now than at virtually any other time throughout the history of the planet.

It would be interesting so see sources the sources you have for your very strong claims - maybe you can post them with the dot com. We are not advocating for the climate apocalypse on this channel and Bill Gates did not have a look at this video - in this case the script was written before we suggested it as a sponsored video.

One mans disaster is another mans minor inconvenience. So i think it would be wise to stay within a scientific context when discussing science. That being said, i do think we should try to stay within the 1.5 degree target, it looks unrealistic at the moment, but a 1.5 degree increase will have known consequences. Ocean acidification, thawing permafrost, rising oceans etc.

    • @Væringjar “We know for a fact that temperature is a mixture of difference factors,” We are in agreement. "CO2 is the variable that facilitates current warming" This is a judgement, an assumption, it is not a fact. There is evidence that average temperatures have moved faster or at least by the same magnitude +0.79C in a thirty years period on a number of occasions without there being any change in CO2 Ppm. The evidence that the small 2% or 3% of Mans contribution to CO2 produced naturally will lead to a run away climate disaster is a nonsense IMO and I am backed by hundreds of scientists who are also of the same opinion. Just to be clear, are you saying the that you support the story that we have just one decade to save the planet from a climate armageddon?

      spillargespillarge3 kun oldin
    • @spillarge We know for a fact that temperature is a mixture of difference factors, but CO2 is the variable that facilitates current warming. If you do not agree with this, then please provide evidence for what factors you think are responsible. _The evidence doesnt support this kind of nonsense_ What nonsense? You have to be more accurate, most of the _"we got a decade"_ does come from scientific predictions where future warming is projected with current emissions. The most cited is a timeframe for a 1.5 degree rise in temperature.

      VæringjarVæringjar3 kun oldin
    • @Væringjar Given that temperatures can rise over decades to alter the rolling average without a notable change in CO2 doesnt support that an increasing temperature trend can ONLY be explained by CO2. Clearly there must be other factors or a combination of factors at play to produce the increase or decrease in the rolling average. I grant you that the science behind GHG forcing is not controversial, however the exageration and sensationalism of future scenarios, for instance one decade to save the planet is highly controversial as many, many leading scientists agree this kind of exageration has been taken too far. The evidence doesnt support this kind of nonsense.

  • That's funny. It doesn't sound that complicated to me. It just sounds like the answer is a resounding "Yes, it is too late." We are on the final burn of civilization, and here out, it crashes. I'm glad I'm middle-aged so I saw a wonderful world (even coral reefs before they mostly died) before we squirted billions of babies for no reason. Now we have 7.8 billion of us and growing... What a stupid species! The sight of a baby anymore makes me almost gag. It's so disgusting. I love the hopium at the end "It is still very much possible". What a crock of bullshit. They can't make a video like this without the self-delusion crap at the end, though, can they. That's sad.

  • I mostly disagree with this video. Renewable energy technology has been around since the 80s we do not necessarily need to innovate. The oil industry and its grasp on politics have prevented a transition for their own benefit and nobody else. We suffer as a result of our dependence on fossil fuels we do not need fossil fuels to develop and improve standard of living. This is a myth invented by the fossil fuel industry.

  • What this video misses entirely is the plants adapting to higher CO2 levels and starting to consume more of it. Each plant species itself will adapt, and also the ratio between more CO2-consuming plants and less CO2-consuming ones will change.

    netspirit79netspirit795 kun oldin
    • @Daniel Moreira while it may take longer for a given species to increase its CO2 consumption, the balance between more CO2-consuming plants and less CO2-consuming ones can shift very quickly, literally within 2-3 seasons - they are already "fighting" one another, there is an equilibrium, and it does not take much to shift it. Climate change is self-regulating in more ways than one. A hotter planet will be emitting more heat to the outer space. A less hospitable climate will suppress population and economic growth. And so on.

It will be a small group of the human population left to work with the remaining of what we so claimed the human specie abolished--which is power, energy. It cost a fortune while we are here but the small selected survivors I insist will not be working with wages or budgeting.
